TRADITIONAL ZAKYNTHIAN FOOD & WINE
Using organic and seasonal ingredients, we aim to highlight the special features of Greek cuisine and local products.
You will not find any weird extravagant recipes, but you will surely experience what it means to have excellent food resources! Colors, scents and flavors complement one another throughout all the seasons. This is what we want to share with you.
Cold pressed olive oil, red and white wine from our local varieties, locally made cheese, herbs, seasonal fruit and vegetables all year round, wild greens and eggs from local chickens are just a few of nature’s gifts. Any special dietary requirements such as Gluten free/vegetarian options are available.
CARETTA-CARETTA SEA TURTLE
The Caretta-caretta sea turtles have chosen Zakynthos (Zante) as their main reproduction biotope, more specifically the areas of Marathonissi and Gerakas.
The magnificent creatures that have existed since the era of the dinosaurs, more than 150 million years ago, struggle to survive despite the hardships they endure. Every year, during the summertime, they come ashore to lay about 100 eggs in the warm sand of the beaches in the areas mentioned.The turtles lay their eggs every about 15 days in June, July and August.
To do this, they must not be disturbed in any way, so that the areas where they lay their eggs are off-limits for people after sunset. No noises or lights are permitted near the beaches. The eggs stay in the warm sand for about two months, and then they hatch to let the baby turtles out. The beaches the turtle uses are under surveillance, and there are special information posts for the visitors.
NAVAGIO SHIPWRECK BEACH
There is no doubt that Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach) is one of the most famous and most photographed beaches in Greece. A little cove with a pristine beach and crystal clear waters home to a famous shipwreck, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece.
